Charlie's Story

Charlie was born in Cambridge and grew up on a farm in the East Anglian countryside.

 

He graduated from Durham University with a degree in Psychology before joining the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2001 - just two days before the attack on the twin towers. Charlie commissioned as an officer into the Royal Horse Artillery with whom he served in Iraq as a platoon commander. He was responsible for conducting counter-insurgency operations and training the new Basra police force.

Realising his passion for sport, Charlie was seconded from the Army to the Great Britain Modern Pentathlon Team in Bath and competed for the British team at the 2005 World Championships. He was National Champion in 2007.

It was during his time as an athlete that Charlie’s passion for applied psychology flourished, believing this to be a fundamental contributor towards his achievements rather than raw talent! 

 

Whilst gaining a further MSc in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Brunel University, Charlie won a national award for his applied research into “motivational climate” in teams.

Charlie started coaching mental skills to schools and clubs and was soon given the opportunity to work with athletes and teams from numerous Olympic and professional sports.

​

Charlie became the lead performance psychologist for the GB Olympic Skeleton Team, working with Lizzy Yarnold towards her becoming double Olympic Champion (2014 and 2018), as well as the team becoming the most successful Winter Olympic team of all time. 

​

He has since gone on to work with more than 15 Olympic medallists across the Winter and Summer Games as well as Gareth Southgate's coaching team, England's Lionesses, Premier League clubs, military special forces and the Royal Household. â€‹

 

In 2010 Charlie joined Lane4 (now part of Ernst & Young) giving him the opportunity to transfer his knowledge and skills into business and corporate leadership. Working alongside true greats and gaining valuable insights from industry experts, Charlie learnt the craft of coupling deep knowledge with group facilitation and coaching. 

 

Starting his own business in 2015, Charlie has since supported leaders and organisations to transform their approach to leadership, human performance and talent development, putting resilience at the centre of a vibrant and productive workforce.

Alongside some fantastic associates, Charlie delivers keynotes, coaching and workshops in high performance. leadership and resilience. 

 

Charlie has designed and delivered award-winning programmes for a number of global organisation including Coca-Cola, Lego, Virgin, Dyson and Linklaters.  He was awarded Top Speaker at The Henley Business School Partnership.​

Charlie’s best-selling book “Inside-Out” explores his work with some of the world’s most accomplished professionals through the lens of neuroscience, stress adaptation and mental performance. 

​

Charlie lives in the Cotswolds with his wife, two children and two spaniels.
