As a performance psychology coach, my job is to show athletes, teams, coaches and organisations how they can adapt to the pressures of their sport. When I have done my job well it is this pressure that brings out the best in them.....and winning becomes a habit that is difficult to break."

Charlie graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Durham University, before joining the army in 2001. After completing a year's leadership training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he served for six years with the Royal Horse Artillery. During this time he fulfilled a variety of operational requirements including a tour of duty in Iraq as a platoon commander. Here he was responsible for conducting counter-insurgency operations as well as training and recruiting the new Basra police force.

A passionate sportsman, Charlie was later seconded to the TeamGB Performance Centre for Modern Pentathlon. Within just two years he was ranked top 3 in Great Britain and was selected for the GB Team at the World Championships. He competed in five World Cups, and became British Champion in 2007. It was during his time as an athlete that Charlie's passion for applied psychology flourished, believing this to be a fundamental contributor towards his achievements rather than talent!

Charlie retired as an athlete in order to pursue this passion. Whilst gaining a further MSc in Sport Psychology at Brunel University, he won a national award for his applied research in motivational climate, presented by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Charlie is now the Psychology Consultant for the GB Olympic Fencing Team and has also achieved notable success with equestrians, tennis players, rowers and cricketers. Charlie also conducts applied work in schools with high aspirations in sport. He has coached seven junior and youth athletes on the World Class Development and Talented Programmes, four of whom have achieved success at the European and World Championships.

Charlie has also shared his insights into personal resilience, high performing teams and change leadership with a wider business audience, designing and implementing programmes for numerous FTSE100 and public sector organisations (see clients).
